The Allies for Humanity Time Bank
Building abundance through shared time and care
At Allies for Humanity, we use a community time bank as one way to recognize care, creativity, and shared effort — especially in spaces where money is not always accessible or appropriate.
The time bank is not a program or a requirement. It is part of a larger ecosystem where people, artists, organizations, and neighbors support one another while honoring everyone’s contribution.
What Is a Time Bank?
A time bank is a shared exchange where:
-
Time is the currency
-
One hour given equals one hour received
-
Money is not exchanged
-
Participation is always optional
Time banking allows communities to meet real needs, support access, and recognize forms of care that are often invisible or undervalued.
Time banking exists alongside paid work, not instead of it.
How Allies for Humanity Uses Time Banking
What This Is
We use time banking to:
-
Honor volunteer time without coercion
-
Support access to community events and spaces
-
Recognize care, creativity, and presence
-
Build relationships rather than transactions
What This Is Not
Time banking at AFH is:
-
Not wages or compensation
-
Not payment for services
-
Not required to participate
-
Not surveillance or productivity tracking
The time bank exists to support people, not manage them.
Our Shared Service Categories
To keep the time bank simple and shared, we use a small set of Service Categories.
These describe what happened, not who someone is or what credentials they hold.
If more than one category could apply, choose the closest one and move on.
